What do you do when you’ve devoted 20 years to raising a family you love more than anything?  They leave the nest and leave you…free to follow your passion!

Ginny admittedly chickened out of majoring in theater at Smith College, majored in English instead, moved to New York City right out of school and made a career in the Advertising world.  It was fun, it was exciting, it was exhausting, it was stressful, it was many things that made it unthinkable when the babies came along.  Instead, she threw herself into volunteering in her town, her kids’ schools, her church.  But out of the corner of her eye, all along the way, was the “I can’t wait until” thought about getting back into acting.

The years flew by, Ginny made sure that her whole family took advantage of all the wonderful culture in Connecticut – theater, symphony, dance, opera, concerts and forums.  And she never ceased to be delighted by all the talent right here in Connecticut
– getting to New York City was always fun, but there was no need to travel for culture and entertainment, for it was so rich right in her back yard.

As the children became more independent, she put her natural skills to use as a freelance writer and editor, working at home as time allowed.  She found the world of voiceovers, made so accessible with changing technology, which brought her into the world of radio. 

“SpotLight; Radio Reveling in the Arts and Entertainment” premiered in March of 2005 on WLIS/WMRD am radio in Middletown, CT; just a half hour once a week, but a half hour filled with information on the Connecticut arts scene, with interviews with some of the most creative and entertaining people in Connecticut.  Ginny couldn’t bear to be a critic – having  been a performer all her life, she could appreciate the hard work that went into any performance, good or bad.  So she established herself as a promoter, not a critic, and her show became the only one of its kind on local radio.  Guests ranged from prominent groups such as Hartford Stage, Connecticut Opera, Theaterworks and CONCORA, to community  theaters and choral groups, as well as museums, seaports, and arts organizations. It also led to chatting with visiting celebrities  suchas Carol Channing and Paul Williams, but most importantly to finding friendship and connections with theater, music, and dance professionals throughout the state.  It also led to voiceovers for the stations advertisers, giving her important experience as she developed her voiceover career.

In 2007, she began hosting an internet show, Spotlight On Connecticut.  More opportunities to chat with creative types, without the time constraints of live radio.  A highlight was an interview with one of her idols, Gene Wilder, when he received an award from the CT Commission on Culture and Tourism.

And, again, while traveling forward through the world of broadcasting, the lure of the stage got stronger.  She began to take acting lessons at Hartford Stage, which encouraged her to finally get out there and start auditioning.  Not so easy, being a woman of a certain age, not as lithe and unlined as she was years earlier…the ingénue roles would not be hers.  But she found so many other wonderful roles, and her acting career was launched.

Ginny wholeheartedly embraces the thought that “it’s never too late unless you don’t start now.”  So whether it’s voicing a commercial or educational video, playing an old woman or middle aged diva, writing copy or editing fiction, taming her butterflies  to interview a celebrity of whom she’s in awe, or promoting all the wonderful creative talent that exists in Connecticut
…it’s never too late to make the most of all of it!
